Lee Ellis and Johnny Ellis, Father & Son, are the attorneys who comprise Ellis & Ellis.

The family's connection to the practice of law dates back before the Civil War when James E. Rains (Great-grandfather) graduated from Yale (Class 1854) and was elected the City Attorney for Nashville, Tennessee in 1858.

In 1953 Lee Ellis became a Law Partner with his father-in-law Littell Rust, (Center). Mr. Rust Graduated from Vanderbilt Law School in 1909 and taught at the evening law school from 1926 to 1958.

Lee Ellis finished Columbia Law School in NY in 1953.  He practiced with his father-in-law and became an advocate for Civil Rights in the 1960s & 70s.  In the 1980s Lee served as General Counsel for the Tennessee Department of Conservation, addressing environmental concerns, and State Parks. During it all, he taught "Conflicts of Law" at the Nashville School of Law from 1960 to 1998.
